How to Outfit the Modern Office

Choosing the ideal office furniture to meet today’s standard for office design is easy as long as you keep certain things in mind. If you’re not entirely sure on how to go about outfitting your office, these tips may help you make the right decisions:

  • Choose furniture according to the purpose it will serve. In practice, this means making sure that your secretary’s desk has enough drawers to store supplies and your clients have ample seating to make them feel welcome, among others. Modern office furniture is often designed with certain purposes in mind; contact your dealer to know what type of function a piece of furniture was intended for.
  • Choose a design aesthetic that matches the line of work of your company. Modern fashion agencies might prefer to have chic white desks with sweeping, clean-cut lines, however, this aesthetic wouldn’t work as well for a company that does accounting work. Try your best to match the aesthetic with the image both your clients and your employees have of the company.
  • Look for furniture designs that are versatile and can serve multiple purposes. Some modern office furniture designs allow you, for example, to use a modular cabinet tucked under a table as a chair. Such versatility will help you save money and space in your office.

Essential Tips for Building Your Home Office

If you’re planning to work at home, one of the most important areas in your house is your office space and failing to set it up properly could affect your productivity. An essential element of your home office is the furniture you will be using as they play a vital role when it comes to providing comfort. With the endless combination of design and style ideas, picking the right set of furniture should involve careful planning. Here are some helpful tips that may come in handy.

Work on a budget.

First thing you should do is to come up with a budget and try to work around it as much as possible. Setting up a budget will help trim down your options and prompt you to look for more affordable alternatives. Moreover, this will help you avoid falling into the trap of spending too much for unnecessary items.

What's your style?

Learn how to use your budget wisely based on your preference for style and design. Do you like antiques that bring an elegant vibe or do you prefer a more modern take with furniture that have innovative angles? Keep in mind that the designs of the furniture also affect your functionality.

Spacing is key.

Finally, consider the space you will allot for your home office. Failing to do so may equate to having items that do not fit perfectly, thereby affecting your mobility.

What to Consider When Buying a New Pool Table

Buying a pool table is expensive business, so whether you’re purchasing a new one or a pre-owned table, make sure you keep the following considerations in mind:
  1. Quality. The quality of the pool table you are purchasing is, of course, one of the most important aspects about a pool table that a buyer will have in mind. Pool table quality boils down to a couple of things, so it’s often best to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of a good table.
  2. Size. Although, ideally, it’s usually best to purchase a table that meets the regulation requirements of the types of games you most enjoy playing, the size of the pool table becomes an important factor to consider when you don’t have a room at home that can comfortably house a regulation-sized behemoth. Before heading out to buy a pool table, measure the room you plan to place it in and consult one of the many pool table sizing guides on the internet to find a size that fits.
  3. Price. In the world of pool tables, more expensive is usually better. A more expensive pool table is almost guaranteed to last longer than a less expensive one, will cause less faults and create more enjoyment during play, and will have a better resale value. Quality pool tables tend to last for several generations, so you can treat the added expense as an investment.

Talking Shop: Ordering a Custom Pool Table

Ordering a custom pool table for the first time can be a daunting task—especially if you’re talking to your dealer and you’re not entirely sure what he’s talking about. Here’s a quick overview of the terms your dealer may use when discussing the details of your new custom pool table with you:

  • Legs: This one should be pretty straightforward—it’s those long stalks the table sits on that allow it to stand on its own.
  • Frame: The legs are attached to the frame of the table and this connects them with the slate. If you don’t know what a slate is, read on to the next description.
  • Slate: The slate the part of the table that really identifies it as a pool table. It’s that giant, flat playing surface the balls roll on.
  • Felt: The felt is that large cut of fabric that sits between the slate and the balls.
  • Rails: The rails are the long sections of wood that bound the slate. Since they play such an important part in making sure that balls bounce accurately off the cushions, they should only ever be solid wood.
  • Cushions: The cushions are the pads that line the rails. The cushions on your pool table should be BCA Approved K-66 profile.
  • Pockets: The pockets are the holes that the pool balls fall into. They can come in plastic, rubber, or leather—leather being the preferred choice for home use.

Bring Home Vegas with a Game Room Experience

Las Vegas is so well-known for its gambling entertainment opportunities that many tourists flock the city just to try their luck. Avid players of card games dream to play on the Strip, yet non-locals will be hard-pressed to travel all the way to Nevada to soak in the experience of playing for high stakes. Fortunately, there are ways to bring home the Vegas experience, and one of them would be to construct a proper game room.

Game rooms are typically built to house a pool table or foosball set, and can even accommodate more contemporary forms of games, such as videogames. With a little sprucing up, an ordinary game room can turn into a Vegas-worthy casino, complete with a mini-bar and ambiance to match. The key to creating such a luxurious and exciting space would be to carefully choose the right equipment and furniture.

Those planning to construct a casino-like atmosphere for their game room can’t skimp on their gaming equipment; much of the real tables used in Vegas are masterfully crafted from rich woods that are iconic in appearance. Thus, homeowners should try to purchase similar equipment from specialty manufacturers that design their products much like the ones used in the Strip. Not only will these equipment last very long due to their high quality, they’ll also help players immerse themselves in a genuine gambling game.

Building Your Own Game Room

The prospect of having your very own game room dedicated to the games you love can be very exciting. On the other hand, planning a game room can become a chore. A good solution to this pleasurable challenge would  be to take it one step at a time. Listed below are some of the things you'll need to consider when you’re about to build the ultimate man cave:

Room Type
What kind of game room would you like to have? A fortress of solitude which only you can enter? A room dedicated to your favorite card game? A room where everyone can have fun together? Making up your mind about the purpose of your game room will help you sort things out a little easier.

Room Space
The game room is definitely going to involve big pieces, so it pays to take note of the space available to you. If your room is too small to accommodate a poker table and a pool table at the same time, you will have to pick between the two.

Co-Inhabitants

If you are living with a bunch of guys, you can technically turn the entire house into one big game room. A lady friend would require you to put the game room in a location that’s much quieter. Try balancing it out with her, and everything will be fine.

Craps: Basic Facts About the Casino Game

When you walk into any casino and you see people buzzing at a long, green, felt-covered table, you've probably walked in on another exciting game of craps. People enjoy this game because it gives them a bigger chance at winnings in a minimal amount of time. However, there are a couple of things you should be familiar with before you start playing.

The Table
The long craps table comes with an intricate diagram on the table top, which shows spaces for corresponding types of bets. The center of the table is reserved for Hardways and One Roll bets while the ends of the table have sections for the Pass Line, Come, Place, Field, and other bets. Note that each end of the table mirrors the other.

The Workers
Four workers man a craps table. The boxperson, at the center, oversees the game. He settles disputes, handles money, and ensures that each game is carried out well. There are also three dealers at each table. Two, standing beside the boxperson, pay off winnings and take in losses accurately. The third dealer is called a stickperson. He handles the dice and talks up the game.

The Discipline

It's easy to get lost in all the fun of a craps game but one should note that this is a game of trends. Learn to grab every opportunity to wager as much as you can afford when you find a good trend, and be on guard for a bad one.

Prolonging the Life of Your Billiard Table

Though it pays to have a high-class billiards table in your own game room, having one at your disposal doesn't come with just perks. If you weren't born to Bill Gates's riches—or to a number of home servants for that matter—you also have to maintain it yourself. As with anything you own, maintaining a billiards table is a commitment.

The first thing you should do is acquire all items you will need to regularly clean your table. You must have a pool table brush, a vacuum cleaner with a thin nozzle, a pool table cleaning solution, and wood polish. If you have all these in hand, you're set to do the following:

·         Clean out the pockets. Take out the balls from the pockets of your table and give them a good cleaning by wiping them with warm water and a soft cloth. Vacuum the pockets to keep them from accumulating dirt.
·         Brush it up. Choose the right kind of brush fit for felt table tops. This usually consists of bristles in two lengths: longer at the edges and shorter in the middle. Use this after ending every playing session to remove any foreign contaminants that made their way into the game area.

·         Polish. Aside from making the wooden parts of the table squeaky clean, polish them to remove possible irritants that can migrate to the table top. Find a good wood polish or citrus-based solution to do this.
